Maintenance
To maintain the natural beauty and durability of your new solid wood floor, please keep the following points in mind:
- Color variations in flooring is a natural occurrence due to species, age, grade of flooring, and exposure to sunlight or UV light. Each piece of wood is naturally unique so your flooring will display a variety of color, even within a box of one flooring grade. Unlike carpet or tile, it is the artistry of the flooring installer that decides the final pattern and look of each hardwood floor. Be assured that no two floors look exactly the same, nor will they exactly mimic store samples.

- Grading guidelines allow for the inclusion of naturally occurring characteristics of wood that contribute to the beauty of a finished floor. These may include variations in grain and color, knots and mineral streaks.
- Normal exposure to sunlight will bring about changes in the shading of any hardwood flooring as it ages. Area rugs and other objects that block sunlight should be moved occasionally to ensure that this shading occurs evenly across the floor.

- Excessive and/or continued exposure to water and/or moisture will damage hardwood flooring.

- Regularly sweep or vacuum your floor to prevent sand and dust from accumulating and scratching the finish. Place rugs inside entrances and any areas that are sources of sand, dust and/or water. Use only indoor rugs that specify they are suitable for use on hardwood flooring. Many rubber backed rugs contain chemicals that can damage the finish.

- Keep relative humidity levels in you home between 40% and 50%. In summer, when it is especially humid, keep the room well ventilated and use a dehumidifier if necessary. In winter, when the air is dryer, use a humidifier if necessary.

- Never use wax, oil-based detergent, vinegar, or any other household cleaners on your pre-finished hardwood floors. They may dull or damage the finish, leave grease marks,make the floor slippery, and/or make it more difficult to clean. Wipe floors with a damp (nearly dry) mop and a cleaner that is recommended for hardwood floors. Avoid using any product that requires mixing with water.

- High heels, especially if worn or broken, and shoes with hard heels can cause damage to hardwood floors. Caution should be taken to avoid wearing this footwear on any hardwood flooring.

- Use felt pads or other suitable floor protection under all furniture and chair legs.

- Be very careful when moving heavy objects like furniture or appliances across

- hardwood floors. Felt pads, a blanket or an inverted rug may be used to avoid damage.

- If you have pets, especially large dogs, keep their claws well trimmed. The pressure exerted on a hardwood floor from pets claws can cause deep scratches that some people may find unappealing.

- Light scratches can be easily dealt with by using a touch up kit recommended for hardwood flooring. Consult your flooring or building supply dealer for recommendations.

- Wood will naturally darken when exposed to light so it is recommended that you protect your floor against continuous direct sunlight or any intense source of artificial light.

- Hardwood floors can be refinished and/or re-stained. Refer to a professional for an evaluation.
